Return of old friends
Hello world, im steve-o, and i have been roped in to spreading the good word of skateboarding in cork and and all the fine things you can find in your local tubes.
This is my first blog entry and i think its only fair i start with the return of TUBES decks. I've been skating a tubes boards for a good 4 years now and i must say i love them. (No i didnt get paid to say that)
First things first, we all know the pain of snapping a board or riding one into the ground, then worrying about getting another 60 or 70 bucks for another one. Well here's a lil sigh of relief for those of you who are strapped for cash, Tubes boards are at an all time low of 40 bucks!! Personally 40 bucks is a steal, espiecaly now days. Don't think for a second that because the price is cheap, the deck quality is cheap, because its not! TUBES boards are pressed by JART skateboards in spain and all the materials are top quality. These decks are made with the same love and care as grandma's apple pie. (please do not try and eat the decks) Tubes decks come in sizes to suit everyones fancy, 7.5, 7.775, 8.0 and for the lil ripper's theres the mini. I don't really know what else to say about them, just gotta try one for yourslef. In short if you want strong pop that wont rip your pockets grab a tubes board, you wont be let down. Who knows i might even be putting one up for grabs, stay tuned.......

Hi Dudes..
The West Coast Surf Clubs 'Lahinch Open' fun Surf contest was on over the weekend of May 8th and 9th.
The conditions were absolutely perfect for it, there was a few shoulder high sets but the shape of the surf was awesome, just long peeling left handers.
The contest is only in its second year. Kenny's pub have started sponsoring and the prizes are really awesome.
The event was supposed to be held a month ago but the surf didn't happen, so it go called for May 8th. The surf a few hours before the comp was
absolutely flat, but a sweet little swell popped up for the day. The sun was shining and the stage was set.
About 20 local surfers took place and some awesome action went down.
The ladies event was run off and the best two ladies got into the mens semi finals. Cliodha was in the 1st semi and Maria Marianne who won the ladies event, was in the 2nd semi final.
After the first few round were run the surf club held a BBQ outside the Celtic T-Shirt Shop at high tide and took a break from the contest
At 3pm after the tide had started to drop and the surf really shaped up the final was held.
Local surfer Oli Flaherty was the favourite as he's been absolutely ripping lately.
By the time it go to the finals there was four surfers left Alec Frazer, Peter Conroy (last years champion), Oli Flaherty and myself.
THe judges gave us 30minutes to catch two good waves. It was dream surf for a contest and we all got about 8 or 9 waves each.
All eyes were on Oli and on one of his waves he had three big hacks, straight up like in the photo. Just rippin.
I was surfing Dave Blounts board, a four fin, which was a bit odd, so I was exactly on top of my game.
Peter and Alec were getting some nice waves too.
At the end of the final I thought Oli had taken it, so did Oli!! But the judges called it after a lot of tense waiting, I won cause I minced two long waves to the beach and got the 'Lahinch Open Title'.
Turbo stoke.. Oli's a young fella, there's lots of more chances ahead of him!!
Full Results:
Congrats to all those who took place in the Lahinch open, it was a great sunny day with good waves and great perfomances from all surfers
